My Glossary

My Glossary page is going to be one of the most important centres at Tatcho Drom. It holds my personal definitions on some major terms I have used throughout Tatcho Drom. The public will run the risk of grossly misinterpreting my view points if they read my journals without understanding my personal definition of the terms and concepts I use. These are my own personal definitions of the shown terms and explain a lot about my worldview. I have found that most of my clashes in discussion with people, including family, is caused by cognitive dissonance in those learning my teachings.

Cognitive dissonance is a psychological phenomenon which refers to the discomfort felt at a discrepancy between what you already know or believe, and new information or interpretation” (source).

Socrates instructed his students on first meeting by saying, “If you would speak with me – you must define your terms.” I, too, share the same sentiment. Very little constructive dialogue may incur between us if we do not first define our terms, as we would unnecessarily clash in many areas of belief over semantics.

This page is in the early stages of development. Feel free to discuss my definitions with me by filling in the contact form below.

To help you navigate through this page, I’m constructing a table with links to the terms. You may click on a term link, then to come back up to this Glossary Contents table, click on the term heading. The terms coloured orange have some information. The terms that remain grey are empty of information.

Christianism

Succinct Description Christianism is a structure made up of two major groups: Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. Christianism is based on arbitrary structures that need to be adhered to, for the sake of salvation. Salvation is often based upon the follower’s merits to adhere to these structural principles.

Pagan

Succinct Description

Pagan refers to some country dwelling people who are earth oriented, as they live off the land. The etymological root of the word pagan gives us this description, “late 14c., from L.L. paganus ‘pagan,’ in classical L. ‘villager, rustic, civilian,’ from pagus ‘rural district’” (source).

The pagan country dwellers around the globe follow many different spiritual beliefs, and it would be blatantly presumptuous of me to say that all pagans are pantheistic nature worshippers. This is not the case. In my world, the pagans that I know and am related to follow the Old Ways of the Pavee (Irish Travellers) and Romany (Gypsy) people – and both of these groups are not pantheists, that is, worship a plethora of gods and goddesses, but both of these groups worship One God and understand that from our One God comes all forms of duality; including both female and male aspects of divinity (the god and the goddess), both demons and angels, both light and darkness, etc.

In this day and age there are many different definitions for the word pagan, but I mainly make two categorical distinctions:

  • Neo-Paganism – Mainly connected with Gardnerian Wicca. I am not associated with this form of Paganism.
  • Old Ways Paganism – Mainly connected with my related Pavee (Irish Traveller) and Romany (Gypsy) ethnic groups. This form of paganism I am associated with.

Detailed Description

The word pagan has been used to describe “modern pantheists and nature-worshippers from 1908″ (source), that is for over a century, and yet we know that pagans have been around for a lot longer! My mother and I jokingly refer to pagans as “country bumpkins”. Pagans are not necessarily Witches or involved in Witchcraft as many in the public assume. Pagans have been and are people who live in the country and their spiritual leanings are their own. Their spiritual leanings are ofttimes simple (and yet deep), as they are hard working people living off the land and don’t have the time some of us have to concentrate on philosophical and religious pursuits. I say they have simple and yet deep beliefs because these beliefs have to work for them – their beliefs cannot be just head knowledge as their survival depends on their spiritual beliefs. Hence, though many pagans may not be philosophers, they are deeply in-tune with the spiritual aspects of nature. Needless to say, pagans are a dying breed, and many country dwelling people today have been overcome by globalisation and the spread of modernisation as it consumes the land.

The pagans I know from my wife’s Pavee (Irish Traveller) and Romany family have long resisted the forces of modernisation – they still travel in horses and carts (not vans and caravans) and many still live in the country. In times past, pagans have long been a friend to my family, for example, helping my mother and her father in times of need, feeding them, clothing them and comforting them in their travels and sojourns in the wilderness of Chile (before we moved over to Australia and slowly became more urban). My understanding is that it is a revival of ancient Satanic practices that have marred the term pagan and changed the meaning of pagan into something that is related to sinister Witchcraft and Wicca.

I will refer to modern pagans, who are not related to the long existing country dwelling  pagans and Old Ways pagans, as Neopagans.

An interesting experience, while I was living in New Zealand I became involved with a leader of the Neopagan groups. Her husband was a very observant and level headed Magician who explained something to me that has made a lot of sense in my own experience. This gentleman said, “[Neo]pagans are glorified Christians, as they consider themselves better than Christians; but the reality is that both groups are one and the same. Both bicker and slander each other and are based off the same religious roots.”

Those of you who have no understanding of the occult systems of the world probably will find it a surprise that Roman Catholicism is a sinister religion that has long influenced Satanic groups around the world, including Neopaganism. This section does not give me the space to focus on Roman Catholicism and its influence on sinister occultism, but let it suffice to say that it is the Roman Catholic system that has marred and destroyed the image of the country dwellers who long opposed the modernising forces of the Roman, and later, Roman Catholic powers. The Roman Catholic church, who is a master of information control and propaganda, is ultimately responsible for the dictionary meaning of Pagan, and the dictionary meanings are:

  1. A person who does not acknowledge your god.
  2. A person who follows a polytheistic or pre-Christian religion (not a Christian or Muslim or Jew).
  3. Someone motivated by desires for sensual pleasures [a hedonist].
  4. Not acknowledging the God of Christianity and Judaism and Islam.

All of the above dictionary meanings of a pagan are false. They are the result of cultural genocide inflicted upon the country dwellers and Old Ways followers who opposed the Roman Catholic church’s greedy, misogynist, imperialistic, capitalist and deadly spirit.
